Toddler Story Time

Toddler Storytime is a 45 minute group designed for preschool kids aged 2-4 and their caregivers. The Storytime Friends read stories, sing songs, use fun props, and complete a craft every Storytime. We encourage learning, a love for literature, and of course early social skills!
Toddler Storytime is led by Brittany Nocella- Library Assistant.
FAQ
What does a Toddler Storytime group look like?
-I set up little circle pads on the floor for the kids to sit on in our meeting room. The kids sit in a semi-circle around my chair, and there are tables and chairs set up right behind them for the caregivers. Meetings typically go in this format:
- 1. Welcome Song
- 2. Read a book together
- 3. Songs and rhymes (using scarves)
- 4. Read another book
- 5. Songs and rhymes (using egg shakers)
- 6. Read one last book
- 7. Songs and Rhymes (using rhythm sticks)
- 8. Craft
My kiddo is shy! Do they have to sit on their own or can I be with them?
-Caregiver participation is encouraged! If your little one wants to stay on your lap the whole time, that’s perfectly fine. Social Development is easiest when kids feel safe and supported. They can also bring a stuffed animal or a blankie if that makes them feel better!
Do we have to stay the whole time?
-Nope! If your kiddo isn’t feeling the Storytime vibes, they can come and go as you please. You can hang out in our children’s area and come back in for the craft, or vice versa. Some kids just aren’t crafters and they’d rather leave after the last song. Some kids don’t yet have the attention span for stories. No worries, either way! It’s all voluntary! 😊 Every visit to the library helps kids work on social development, attention span, creativity, and of course early literacy!
Is registration required?
-Registration is STRONGLY encouraged, because it helps me prepare crafting materials and have enough props ready. That being said, I know planning just isn’t possible sometimes and that’s OK! Even a same day phone call helps me prepare. So even if it’s just a “we are on our way there!” call on the day of, I greatly appreciate that! Thanks!
