Baby Storytime (0 – 23 Months)

December 26 @ 11:00 am 11:30 am

Encourage learning, a love for literature, and of course early social skills! Baby Storytime is made with babies from 0-24 months in mind, but older kids are welcome if you think they would enjoy it. As long as we can play gently, we can play together! Storytime is planned to be about 30 minutes long.

Baby Storytime is led by Brittany Nocella- Library Assistant.

FAQ

What does a Baby Storytime group look like?

-I set up big chairs in a circle, and the babies are encouraged to sit and/or crawl together in the middle of the circle (assuming they are able to sit unassisted!). There will be some toys set up for the kids in the middle, so they can practice sharing and playing with the other kids while we read and sing. This is a very low pressure environment. Meetings typically go in this format:

  • 1. Welcome Song
  • 2. Read a board book together
  • 3. Songs and rhymes
  • 4. Read another board book
  • 5. Songs and rhymes (using scarves)
  • 6. Read another board book
  • 7. Songs and Rhymes (using egg shakers)
  • 8. One last book
  • 9. Free Play/Goodbye

My kiddo is shy/ unable to sit alone! Do they have to sit on their own or can I be with them?

-Caregiver participation is HIGHLY encouraged! If your little one wants to stay on your lap the whole time, that’s perfectly fine. Social Development is easiest when kids feel safe and supported. They can also bring a stuffed animal or a blankie if that makes them feel better!

Can I bring snacks? Is breastfeeding okay?

-Absolutely YES to both. A hungry kid is unable to relax and enjoy themselves, so by all means feel free to bring snacks! Please no juice boxes, though, as they tend to squirt when kids squeeze them. Please only bring drinks in a container that is spill-resistant. If you need to breastfeed and are uncomfortable doing so in the storytime, you could make use of the supply closet attached to the storytime room or use our study room if it is available. The study room is immediately next to the meeting room where storytime is held.

Is registration required?

-Registration is STRONGLY encouraged, because it helps me prepare and have enough props, toys, and space ready. That being said, I know planning just isn’t possible sometimes and that’s OK! Even a same day phone call helps me prepare. So even if it’s just a “we are on our way there!” call on the day of, I greatly appreciate that! Thanks!
